The Dandenong Ranges Steiner School is supported by a strong community of parents and friends. We encourage new and existing families to participate in some of the school’s community activities. This provides an important opportunity to become involved in your child’s education on the community level and is a wonderful way to connect with other families, staff and faculty on a deeper level and to enjoy the vibrant community here at our school. There are a number of different ways to become involved. Families are strongly encouraged to consider joining a parent group, working on the Spring Fair Committee, and taking on the role of Classes Carer. All of our families’ contributions help to nourish the school and are gratefully appreciated.

Please contact the office on 03 8790 4797 if you are interested in joining one of our parent groups.

Craft Group

The DRSS craft group meets regularly to create handcrafted items for the school. The beautiful craftwork created by the group is sold on Publicity Stalls during the year and on the School Table at our Open Day as well as at our Spring Fair & Market Day. The craft group runs workshops prior to our Spring Fair each year to help create the beautiful treasures that make up our magical Children’s Tent at our Fair. The group is run by parents and apart from fundraising for the school, the vision for the group is to provide a practical and social outlet for parents and to inspire the group with beautiful projects and ideas that they may take into their own homes. No crafting experience is necessary and all materials are provided. Children are welcome to come along.

Garden Group

Rudolf Steiner created the method of Biodynamic gardening; thus, gardening, farming and land management are integral to Steiner Education. Even back in 1925, Rudolf Steiner was deeply concerned about the sustainability of our planet. We recognise an urgent need to educate about the sustainability of natural systems and our curriculum is built upon the understanding and awareness of environmental values. The Garden Group was created to help uphold these beliefs and work on different garden projects within the school grounds. The proximity of the Primary Campus to the Crystal Brook Park Lands provides exciting possibilities to develop sustainability projects within our natural surroundings with rich indigenous flora and fauna. Additionally, DRSS keeps bees as part of our dedication to sustainable practices. There are a number of bee-keeping parents here at the school who volunteer to help out with the school hives.

Currently, the Garden Group is looking for a parent or two to hold the group; please contact the office on 03 8790 4797 if you are interested in helping out.

Publicity and Fundraising Group

This group meets each term to plan strategies and activities which promote the school and raise funds. The group’s objective is to increase awareness and exposure of our school, with the intention of creating a strong public identity. This is done through practical means such as holding publicity stalls at markets and festivals, mounting displays in public places such as libraries, scheduling public talks and workshops as well as maintaining our website and social network marketing. The group is also responsible for overseeing the annual Open Day and Education Week activities as well as holding fundraisers throughout the school year.

Dandenong Ranges Steiner School Incorporated Association

Parents and interested others are welcome to apply for membership in the DRSS Association. The Association is incorporated with the Victorian Department of Consumer Affairs.

Please contact the office if you are interested in finding out more about any of the above Groups.
